The body is 70% Water!

You need to drink 1 Liter per 22kg of your body weight. That is about 2.5-3 Litres per person or about 8 glasses of water every day.

The nutrients, hormones, enzymes and other vital elements that originate from water determine your overall health. Water is what makes your blood flow through your body! It is essential for all body functions as shown above on the diagram.

Drinking 1 litre of chilled water first thing in the morning will give you energy and will also kick-start your metabolism. It also starts re-hydration as we lose hydration when we are sleeping from breathing out most air. During physical activity we need to be drinking more as we sweat and loose large amounts of water. Rehydration is essential for muscle recovery before and after exercise.

Drinking 1 Litre of water in the morning will also help you lose weight. It will reduce your appetite, as it tricks your brain into thinking you are not hungry. Most of the time we mistake our hunger pains for dehydration. You need to be drinking throughout the day to prevent unnecessary snacking.

Drinking water can clear up your skin and people often report a healthy glow after drinking water. It won’t happen overnight, of course, but just a week of drinking a healthy amount of water can have good effects on your skin.

TEGAN’S TIP: Swap soft drink for water! You might be surprised by the health benefits. If you have trouble drinking plain water, add some lemon or lime to the water for a refreshing and quenching taste. Also try to drink filtered water if possible as the water is alkaline which is extremely beneficial to the body.

Drink up!!
